children should be able to work with their hands

The village of Kazinka is located about 20 kilometers from the city of Gryazi and at the same distance from the regional center - Lipetsk. In the only school where Igor Pastukhov, 31, teaches technology and drawing, about 300 students. He told us about trusting relationships with children, the difficulties of working in the village, and that the teacher’s salary is not as small as everyone used to think.

Parents chose a pedagogical university for me
Almost from the fifth grade, modern children have been thinking about the future profession. In school years, I went with the flow and did not even think about who I want to be. But he firmly knew who I did not want: a teacher.

The university was chosen for me by my parents - Lipetsk Pedagogical University (they wanted me to study in the state). Initially, I was going to apply for physical education, but the district department of education issued a referral to the faculty of technology and entrepreneurship, and since I did not care, I agreed.

In the third year, I and two other classmates were sent to do practical training at a school in the village of Oktyabrsky in the Usmansky District, to teach “Operation and Repair of the Machine and Tractor Park”. But the frost hit –30 ℃, and in the end there were more teachers than students. In my fifth year, I was asked to practice at the Gryazinsky Technical College, and I was allowed to conduct classes there on the arrangement of cars.

I didn’t aspire to strict discipline, and I was more likely to be taken with laughs and smiles: at that time I was 21, and to students 19–20

What serious attitude could we talk about? But I myself regarded this as an interesting experience, because I still did not want to teach after graduation.

When I was about to join the army, I was offered to go to graduate school. I decided that I could combine it with work at school. Just shortly before this, a classmate said that because of the low salary he refused the offer to become a technology teacher in a rural school. It was a school in the village of Kazinka. So I ended up in it. Now I work part-time as a teacher of technology and drawing and a senior research fellow at the All-Russian Research Institute of Rapeseed, I have already received a degree.

Children trust me because they know that I will not give them up
In rural schools, many teachers teach several subjects, and when I was offered to write more, I agreed. It seems to me that it will come in handy in the life of many graduates. Anyway, using spatial thinking is useful for general development! That's just not given to many. In the 9th grade there are several girls who do the drawing in 40 minutes, but most have to modify it at home.
