“School is a conveyor. And it is right!". Why you should not expect an individual approach from school


It is believed that the school equalizes everyone, there is no place for individuality, it kills the aspirations and desires of the child. Parents make such claims more and more often. And our blogger Vadim Meleshko believes that school cannot be different: the conveyor is a convenient and profitable system for everyone, and you should not refuse it.

Previously, everything was done manually, each item was piece. Then someone came up with the idea that if you distribute labor duties and divide the process of creating a product into operations, a thing can be manufactured on stream. This minimized the individuality of each of the produced copies, making them look like two drops, but dramatically increased productivity. However, such an approach is rightly considered to be the achievement of progress, a qualitative leap forward.

The transition to continuous production has sharply reduced the cost of goods, allowed stamping the same things in huge quantities with predetermined quality parameters. In other words, it was precisely this approach that allowed the market to be saturated with everything necessary. Yes, of course, living surrounded by "stamped" things and products created on the stream, we began to appreciate much more everything that was done by hand, on an individual order. Rather, almost everything, because, you must admit, it is better to have a solid standard copy of something released in huge quantities around the world than clumsily made man-made, uncomfortable, ugly and little functional, albeit created with love.

What is this talking about? The fact that all the screams about the crisis of the modern school are actually claims to continuous production

Say, why do we need stamping children, trained in the conveyor mode, why do we need all these unified bells and whistles, we need a strictly individual approach to take into account the interests and capabilities of each individual child, because this is the only way to educate a genius, leader, non-standard personality !

From which it follows that the school as a continuous production has outlived itself and must be abandoned. And now we need to return again to what we left at the time - to the “piece goods”, if you can call each individual student with whom purely individual relations should be built in terms of training.

To be honest, this is complete nonsense. If only because the transition to the conveyor did not destroy manual production where it can and should be preserved. Does the presence of a developed catering system put an end to the desire of each of us to prove ourselves in “kitchen cooking”? And did public transport destroy all other means, including individual ones - a bicycle, motorcycle, car? Or maybe hospitals and polyclinics with their highly specialized doctors put an end to aesculapies of a wide specialty, which used to be able to treat only one patient for long days, weeks and months, but now they have to take dozens of patients a day? Also no. Again, the conveyor that produces low-quality goods with a low service life is bad, the conveyor that breaks constantly is not able to withstand the set standards, and also produces what no one needs.

So, the Soviet school (whether it is praised or scolded) was a very well-established conveyor

The reliance on in-line production and universal education made it possible not only to eliminate illiteracy in a short time, but also to sharply increase the level of education in the country as a whole, to educate several generations of citizens living in a single system of values, which helped to rally people and endure terrible trials at the right time , revive the country from ruin. Despite wars and upheavals, our people literally “from the plow” managed to escape into space in just a few decades, put atomic energy forces at the service of mankind, and make a number of grandiose discoveries.
